Healthy food can come in a very simple recipe that’s quite tasty, too. This recipe features fresh asparagus spears that’s been flavored with butter, balsamic vinegar and soy sauce and then baked to perfection.

340g of fresh asparagus, ends trimmed, washed and drained
2tsp of balsamic vinegar
2tbsp of butter
1tbsp of soy sauce
Cooking spray
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Recipe Instructions

Fixing up the asparagus

Preheat your oven, setting it to 200 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, arrange the asparagus spears on a baking sheet. Once arranged, season it with some salt and freshly ground black pepper and coat it with cooking spray. Put the asparagus in the oven and bake it for about 10 minutes or until it has become crisp-tender. Make sure to watch your spears carefully as it can go from crisp-tender to very tender in just a few minutes.

Preparing the balsamic butter sauce

Put a saucepan over medium heat and add the butter. Do not just melt the butter—let it brown a little. This will make a difference to the overall taste of your sauce. Once browned, turn off the heat and then add the soy sauce and balsamic vinegar. Stir to combine. Put the saucepan back to heat to reduce the balsamic vinegar a little. Once reduced, you are now ready to use it for your asparagus.

Pouring the buttery sauce over the spears

Pour the balsamic butter sauce over the baked asparagus spears. Make sure each asparagus has been covered with the tasty sauce. Serve hot. You can use this as a side dish to steaks and other meat.
