It’s unimaginable but totally possible. Not just simply possible, but deliciously possible. You can make a sweet and buttery dessert with the right kind of asparagus. It is simple to do and uniquely delicious.

350g of fresh baby blue tip asparagus, trimmed and sliced in half crosswise
4tbsp of Muscovado sugar
2tbsp of white granulated sugar
125mlg of water

Recipe Instructions

Initial cooking

Wash the asparagus in cold water and drain. Boil a pot of water and dump the asparagus in. Cover and let it boil until it becomes very tender. Once cooked, drain all the water, transfer half of the asparagus in a bowl and the other half in an oven-proof container. Then, set aside.

Making the syrup

Get a skillet and pour 125ml of water. Let it boil under low heat. Once boiling, add the muscovado sugar, whisking it. Whisk continuously until the liquid starts to thicken. Turn off the heat and pour enough syrup over the first bowl of boiled asparagus. Make sure to coat every piece with the caramelized sugar. Sprinkle some granulated sugar on top.

Baking the asparagus for a different flavor

Pour the remaining caramelized sugar over the asparagus in the oven-proof container. Then, bake it in the oven set at 170 degrees Celsius until it turns a little brown on the sides. Once baked, take out the dish, sprinkle more sugar on top and caramelize it thoroughly using a torch.

Arrange both the asparagus on a single plate. Serve at room temperature.
